Dc mythology5/13/2023 ![]() Too late, the Olympians realized that this had been part of a long time plan of Uxas to weaken them by dividing their overall power. ![]() This caused worship of the Olympians to increase so dramatically that to cope they split themselves into the Greek and Roman gods who eventually became separate beings. However, Uxas came to Earth and told stories of their exploits to the inhabitants of Rome. As a result she cast a spell that caused anyone that knew of them to believe they were much younger than themselves and therefore not worth bothering with. ![]() This battle had weakened them and Hecate realized that if viewed as threat they would be a target of other gods of the universe. The Olympians came into being from the effects of the Godwave energy spilled forth from the creation of the Fourth World, and came to power in the ancient world after overthrowing the Titans. ![]()

Her smoke rose up forever5/13/2023 ![]() ![]() “The stories of Alice Sheldon, who wrote as James Tiptree, Jr. “ Her Smoke Rose Up Forever showcases what are undoubtedly the best of Tiptree’s stories.” Tachyon’s handsomely produced catch-all collection Her Smoke Rose Up Forever is the perfect place to begin: a lovely piece of book production, from its attractive John Picacio cover art through each of its eighteen indispensable stories printed across well-laid-out pages. But even if, like me, you have read her, perhaps a while ago, you need to reread her. If you’ve never read her, and you’ve any interest in SF, you need to rectify that anomaly. It contains all of her major short stories.” ![]() “There is just one great collection of Tiptree’s fiction in print… Her Smoke Rose Up Forever from Tachyon Publications. ![]()

To kill the kingdom5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() Heroes and villains alike in the MCU and MTG alike are too popular to kill off, as they help sell movie tickets and cards. MTG players even compared this to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where franchises and their characters regularly become too popular for their own good. This is clearly only a temporary solution, even if the lore frames these events as permanent victories. ![]() Imprisoned in the Moon, Prison Realm, and Seal From Existence all depict the game's best villains suffering bloodless defeats, simply put on "time-out" rather than killed altogether. The heroes were left standing and so were the villains the last three great multiverse wars ended in the heroes not destroying but sealing away their greatest threats, and there's a trio of enchantment cards to prove it. These stories ended in fake-outs and only killed a few relatively minor characters like Dack Fayden and Gideon Jura. War of the Spark and March of the Machine made it abundantly clear how much plot armor MTG's main characters have. ![]()

Glimpses of the Unknown by Mike Ashley5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Some of them are more than 100 years old, with a date range covering 1899 to 1929. His research on such projects has been second to none, but he really excels himself here, having found 18 short stories that have never been republished since their original appearance. Mike Ashley (not the Sports Direct, House of Fraser and Newcastle United owner) is well known in the book world for editing the long-running Mammoth Book series of short stories, as well as the four-volume History of the Science Fiction Magazine and several other anthologies during the past 40-odd years. So imagine my delight when Glimpses of the Unknown came into my world. I’ve got so many short horror anthologies that I must have the same stories repeated several times over, and there comes a point when collectors like me begin to wonder if they’ll ever find anything new. Put the two together and you basically have my life and spending habits on a plate. MY PERSONAL PARANORMAL CASES: REMOTE VIEWING & 0N-SITE INVESTIGATIONS - Lon Strickler (Host) ![]()

![]() Richard Burton (the explorer, not the actor) attempts to find out What Is Really Going On, aided in later volumes by Samuel Clemens / Mark Twain.Ĭoming back to the first book 25 years after I first read it, I am sorry to say that I found it pretty dire. There is a brilliant central sensawunda concept: all of humanity who ever lived (up to the year 2008, and who survived past the age of seven) are resurrected on the shores of a world-twisting river, apparently as some gigantic social anthropology experiment. ![]() Will the magic survive? I had fond memories of Farmer's four-part Riverboat series, despite the very unsatisfactory ending, and the peculiarly anal accuracy of some descriptions ("the mountains were seven miles or 11265 metres high", if I remember correctly from one of the later books). ![]() NwhyteI am always a bit nervous about returning to books I enjoyed when I was much younger. ![]()

Shadow of Honor by Ronie Kendig5/11/2023 ![]() My only criticism would be that I would have appreciated more of a recap woven through at the beginning since it took me a bit to remember what had happened in the last book and who everyone was. I'm literally dying to read the next installment. ![]() The author always does an amazing job in writing the action scenes and those won't disappoint in this book. The world-building was excellent as well. There were also some really cool characters and places that were new in this third book. I loved reading this! I have learned to love these characters and enjoyed cheering them on as they faced even harder challenges, risks and dangers. There are plenty of surprises and an ever evolving plot leading to a bit of a cliffhanger ending. ![]() The author keeps readers guessing as to who to trust and what will happen next. There are new peoples and planets explored in this third installment with things constantly shifting. ![]() The characters are constantly facing challenges and adapting as they go, which also provides the reader with a lot of character insight and development. ![]() There is a constant sense of suspense, mystery or danger (and sometimes all three). A series that is highly recommended for sci-fi and space opera fans!Įven though this book is around 500 pages it reads faster than that as there are no slow, dragging sections. Full of complex characters and an ongoing battle on multiple fronts between different people on multiple planets keeps the pages turning from beginning to end. SHADOW OF HONOR is another edge-of-your-seat book in this series. ![]() |
