Unsheltered book review5/11/2023 Because of that, I think that any two readers of this book could come away with very different perceptions.Īt its core, Unsheltered tells two parallel stories - one taking place in present-day Vineland, where Willa Knox’s family has just found themselves unexpectedly moving into town and into a surprisingly decrepit house amidst familial and employment turmoil, the other following the story of Thatcher Greenwood and his family during the late 1800s in the life and times of the original founders of the town of Vineland, an interesting town established by a man who can only be described as quite a character, Charles Landis. There are a number of components that tie this book inwardly to itself and outwardly to society that lead to many interesting layers. When I learned Kingsolver’s new book Unsheltered was hitting the stands, I was immediately curious to read it. REVIEW OF Unsheltered BY Barbara Kingsolver:

Double Dealing by Nicole Colville5/11/2023 Ryder swears they won’t mess around at the office. Trace swears there will be no sex- and yet they constantly have sex. By a man who supposedly loves him and by his completely homophobic father who seemed to readily agree to the marriage. On the other side I really did feel like Trace cared about Ryder quite a bit but was not only scared, was totally railroaded. His ruse for the marriage was that he was in love with Trace. He was pompous and arrogant and while there were hints that there was a nice guy under there, I didn’t see it. Trace had a big problem with Ryder acting like he could buy whatever he wanted- including people. So while I liked the premise and like parts of the book and story line, my issues were these. Friendly turns hostile turns into a marriage for a year to cement the deal. But Trace is firmly in the closet and plans on staying that way if he wants to take over his family business.įast forward a few months when Ryder’s company is trying to take over Trace’s company. Even though it was one night, there was practically “insta-love”. They have a chance meeting and a super hot night together without knowing who the other was. Trace isn’t quite as rich, but he isn’t shopping at Target either. Ryder is mega rich, running the company started by his family. I loved the premise of this book- a modern day marriage of convenience to further a business deal.

For me, so much of that came from reading.”Īnthony Doerr (b. This sense that you are not alone in your experience. If we forget our histories, we repeat them. What does it mean to care for stories? I am in love with the idea that stories can provide some continuity through time. “I think the best stories are the ones that get retold enough so that the next generation can see something new in each. I want my work to wake us up to the awe of being here, of being alive.” “There is always this tension of utopia and dystopia moving through the book.

Stolen by Addison Cain5/10/2023 If you want to stay completely unspoiled, this is the place for you to stop. I will put anything big after a pretty picture, just for added protection. I will do everything I can to keep them to a minimum, but they are going to happen. I can’t wait for the next one, which will be sometime next year since Addison is finishing up a personal exapansion project. I had all the feelz, and I think the book created more feelz just so that I could have them. And then I was sad because I had finished it and had already had that brand new book feeling happen and the adrenaline let down from looking forward to it and reading it. I may have called Addison evil and sadistic when I was finished reading it. Addison really hit it out of the ball park. I think the series is one of the best things I’ve read, indie author, romance author, mainstream author, whoever, one of the best, hands down. I have read it over and over and over, and can discuss it for hours. Seriously though, I adore the entire Alpha’s Claim series so hard. If you loved the Alpha’s Claim series, you need to read this book, the first one in the Alpha’s Control series. Because Addison Cain and her PA, Courtney McDaniel, love me, or at least like me somewhat, and I have my awesome blog, I was able to get my hands on an ARC of Stolen really early! And now, I get to share bits and pieces of it with you! Stolen is currently available for pre-order and comes out on the 26th.

Lori the glass castle5/10/2023 She remained in the hospital for several days recovering from her burns until her father showed up and took her home against the doctor's wishes. A neighbor drove them to the hospital, where Jeannette was placed on a bed of ice. Her mother, who was too busy painting to make her lunch, ran in and wrapped her in a blanket. Jeannette was trying to cook her own hot dogs on the stovetop when the gas flame caught her dress on fire. In this sense, he correlates to Max Greenfield's wealthy accountant character David in the movie, despite the character being polished with fiction to play up the contrasting worlds.ĭid Jeannette really set herself on fire while trying to make her own lunch on the stove as a three-year-old? Born and raised on Park Avenue, Goldberg contradicted her own alcoholic father and impoverished upbringing. Not exactly, though he's intended to be a streamlined version of her real-life boyfriend at the time, Eric Goldberg (who she ended up marrying).
